Spring Activities

Yes, yes, we know it's still January, and 70% of you are trapped under three feet of snow or fishing through ice holes on a lake while the rest of us in warmer, arid parts of the country are experiencing our gloomy rainy season, not quite cold, but not warm, with whipping winds and ominous clouds. Spring feels like a distant memory and a million light-years away.

Check your calendars, friends. We are a mere six to seven weeks away from the season of awakenings and new life. Time to prepare! Soon, we will all feel an increase in our energy levels, ready to do some cleaning and decorating, along with a massive desire to be outdoors and in the lap of nature.

The first sign of Spring is the blossoming of happy little flowers in many species and brilliant colors. We have pulled together a small but enchanting selection of floral canvas prints and styling suggestions we think best represent the coming season and all of the fun activities it has to offer.

In Bloom: Spring II by Jan Griggs

It's a balmy 70 degrees, and you just finished a day of organizing, and you're so proud of yourself! You finally dug out that fancy set of dinnerware and dressed the dining room table. But something seems to be missing. Tap, tap, tapping of the fingers...The sun is shining brightly on the walls, and you realize there's nothing there!

You planned your first small dinner with some pod friends to show off your mad cooking skills that you learned during quarantine, and you have a naked wall. Breathe. Remember, it's spring, and you have an arsenal of dreamy floral prints at your fingertips that you're currently drumming on the table. Now chop-chop!

Have a Picnic: Restless Spring Song by Rachel Paxton

Isn't it glorious to lie down on your couch with the windows wide open, drinking in the pure fresh air, and then suddenly, you're bored? You have plenty of food in the refrigerator and haven't practiced your ukulele in months. We think you know what to do. Picnic time!!!

Grab that fluffy blanket sitting at the bottom of your closet, as comfort is essential. What to eat? Cut up some apples, make a tuna melt, or if you're feeling adventurous, an oyster po'boy, and yes, indulge, bring the potato chips! Whatever you do, please do not forget the ukulele for that Hawaiian vibe! But wait, as you're getting set to leave the house, you notice something that causes you to wrinkle your nose. The space above your couch is completely and dreadfully EMPTY. It's ok, write it down on your post-picnic to-do list.

Quail Mating Season: Sunset in Spring 3 by Trevor V. Swanson

Spring is the time of year when animals wake from their slumber to seek a mate to continue the cycle of life. Most animals, including birds and snakes, make up their nests in preparation for the coming bundle of joy.

Here in California, our state bird is the quail. If you happen to find yourself hiking in some of the lower level hills and mountain areas in late Spring, you may come across an adorable family of quail complete with newly hatched chicks. Watching their round, ball-sized bodies and plumes bopping around in search of plants and insects is a sight to behold. We know you'll fall in love, so why not immortalize the experience with some quail canvas art in your sunroom?

Build a Treehouse: Spring Pavilion by Andrea Strongwater

You're itching to get into a project, something you can do with your hands. You've had enough of spreadsheets and zoom calls; manual labor is looking very appealing right now. You have kids, or you don't, but you have been in the house for months. Isn't it time to have a multi-purpose space outside of the house?

A treehouse or some sort of little alcove nestled amongst the foliage and gardens would be ideal. Now that you are coming up with the plans, do you really want this to be for the kids or you? An escape room would be heavenly. Now back to reality. A treehouse or pavilion it is, and we have a vibrant piece of eye candy in the form of canvas art to get those construction juices flowing.

Visit a Farm: Spring Green 1 by Carla Gerard

You love the outdoors and wildlife but have found yourself in a rut of dog walks to the park and jogging through the neighborhoods. And only when you have time to step away from work and meetings, which now all take place at home.

When Spring settles in you, have no choice! Take the day off or wait for the weekend and bring the dog. Find a quaint little farm, spend the whole day grazing with the animals, rolling in the green grass, and feeding the newborns. Replenish your soul with a rural life expedition.

Frolic Through the Hills and the Fields: Spring Dance Tulips by DP Gallery

It's a Saturday, yay, and you watched The Sound of Music last night for the first time. What a classic! In conjunction with the warming weather, you feel inspired to make ball gowns out of curtains, write songs with no real words, run through the hills and put fancy paintings on your walls. You are ready to take on life at Mach 3.

First of all, stop, once again, breathe. It will all fall into place. Do you have any balls that require a gown? More than likely, no. Are you a famous recording artist? Maybe in your dreams. Shortly, there will be fields-O'plenty filled with new blooms awaiting your frolicking. And yes, finding some new canvas gems to line your walls with Springtime themes will help keep that pep in your step and spark in your heart.

That was fun! We love Spring, with all of the growth, greenery, and fragrant waftings. We sure hope you take advantage of the longer days and get to do all of this and more.
